Arthur Aaron discusses the founding of the American Symphony Orchestra, personnel management, union rules, Stokowski's rehearsals, his auditions and audition book, and motivating the orchestra. He also discusses Stokowski's social concerns, hiring women and minority performers, performing concerts in hospitals, his opposition to the Vietnam War, and impromptu memorials that he organized immediately following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the shooting of students at Kent State University.
